Association of Bakers and Confectioners of the Czech Republic

The Association represents a significant professional association in the food and drink industry whose aim is to protect the interests of companies operating in the bakery and confectionery sector and to support their activities. Currently, the Association has 113 members, including bakeries and confectioneries, suppliers of machinery, materials and services for this sector, as well as food technology schools.

The Chairman of the Association manages its activities and implements its strategic goals defined by the management of the Association. Entrepreneurial and organisational tasks of the Association are carried out by its service organisation “Pekař cukrář s.r.o.”.

The Association is a member of the Federation of the Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic and closely cooperates with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. In 2011, the Bakers and Confectioners Association in the Czech Republic celebrates 20 years of its existence. The Association successfully carries out with the rich historical guild tradition of Bohemian bakers and confectioners.

Key activities of the Association:

  • The Association is the top professional organisation. It creates favourable conditions for deepening of professional cooperation and solidarity, and supports common interests of companies operating in the food and drink industry. It represents its members at meetings with professional food and drink associations both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
  • The Association promotes legitimate interests of companies active in the bakery and confectionery sector, as well as in other relating sectors, towards the public, bodies of state administration, supervisory bodies, trade union organisations, and key consumer and supplier entities.
  • The Association promotes interests of its members in the Federation of the Food and Drink Industries of the Czech Republic in economy and industry committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Czech Republic (when relevant legislative norms are discussed).
  • For its members, the Association functions as a consulting and information centre in the following areas: technology, production, economy, and legal and foreign relations.
  • To increase the level of technical and technological knowledge of its members, the Association organises professional seminars and workshops where new trends in their sector are introduced and organises excursions to food and drink industry related trade fairs and exhibitions abroad. It also creates conditions for meetings between professionals, as well as for regular exchange and sharing of experience and establishing of new business contacts.
  • To increase the prestige of the branch and to maintain the workmanship, the Association organises a national competition “CHLÉB ROKU ČR” (CZECH BREAD OF THE YEAR) and various contests in professional workmanship whose winners, both in the junior and senior category, are awarded the following titles: “ĆESKÝ PEKAŘ ROKU” (CZECH BAKER OF THE YEAR) and “ČESKÝ CUKRÁŘ ROKU” (CZECH CONFECTIONER OF THE YEAR).
  • The Association organises two educational projects financed by the EU where it provides training for bakers and confectioners free of charge. The aim of this project is to increase their competitiveness and their adaptation to the conditions of an open European food market.
    • The Association publishes professional journal “PEKAŘ CUKRÁŘ” and “ROČENKA PEKAŘE A CUKRÁŘE” (YEARBOOK OF PEKAŘ A CUKRÁŘ), as well as professional technical and technological publications for the needs of its members.
    • Important tasks of the Association include the following: To support the education and training of young experts in the food and drink industry, to promote the baker and confectioner profession, as well as to increase the attractiveness of the profession among young people.
    • The Association provides information relating to new nutrition trends to the consumers, promotes products made from local materials, as well as products manufactured according to traditional Bohemian technological processes. It also popularises the bakers and confectioners profession in the media.
